Open the lid of the propane tank to see the gauge.

If the needle is on 80, that means the tank is full, and as it gets closer to 40, the tank is half-full.

If you run out of propane, you must have a qualified professional inspect your system before you turn the gas back on, according to national safety code.
Shutting Off Your Propane Tank

Open the lid of the propane tank to see the shut-off valve.

Turn the valve to the right to shut the tank.
