October Safety Check: Essential Safety Tips at Home

October is National Fire Prevention Month, an important reminder that while the holiday season brings joy, it also presents fire hazards that can threaten our homes and families. From frying turkeys to cozying up by the fireplace and lighting candles, many beloved traditions can inadvertently lead to dangerous situations. This season, let’s focus on keeping our homes safe.

General fire safety practices should not be overlooked. Testing smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors monthly is vital for early warning. Changing batteries twice a year is a good habit; you can use the Winter and Summer solstices as reminders. Additionally, hiring qualified professionals to clean and inspect your chimney and vents annually can prevent potential hazards.

General Fire Safety Tips

·         Test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms at least once a month.

·         Change batteries twice a year. You can use the Winter and Summer solstices as reminders – or do it now, if you haven’t  in a while.

·         Have a qualified professional clean and inspect your chimney and vents each year.
